Cleric Movie Poster #1
by Aaron K. on Jul.07, 2009, under Graphics, Photography, Video
I have put together a promotional poster for the upcoming film Cleric. We wanted a soviet constructivist design aesthetic for the text, so instead of using a canned font I drew the CLERIC logotype custom for this project. Call it retro-futuristic avant garde soviet constructivism with a dose of unsettling lines to echo the film’s string-theory timeline warpage. Yeah, that doesn’t make any damn sense to me, either. The rest of the film will have even more references to the soviet-esque aesthetic subtly scattered throughout. I have plans for a few other posters in other styles, some leaning towards graphic novel, others towards illustrated propaganda poster. We’ll see how much time I can take to make them, being completely swamped in post-production hell right now. Visual effects take a loooong time to do right!
Kuler: Carriage Haus
by Aaron K. on Apr.11, 2009, under Graphics
Inspired by the view out my back window, where the neighbor has a carriage house fitted as a beautiful library. It looks so relaxing, with high ceilings, tall windows, an airy yet warm and comfortable atmosphere. Plush chairs, reading lamps, a fireplace, and naturally, books! The carriage house is a cool grey with white trim, charcoal shingles, and a red brick chimney. The lawn is that wonderful mix of green and tan that shows in the spring, just as it begins to grow back to life after a long winter. Lovely view, this is. Just wait until everything is in bloom!
Created with Adobe Kuler. Awesome tool, check it out if you haven’t yet!

by Aaron K. on Mar.24, 2009, under Graphics
A good friend of mine runs the Rochester Americans fan site letsgoamerks.com, and he asked if I could help out with a new logo. Here’s the old one:
And here’s the sample sheet for the new one:
We wanted something modern and clean, that didn’t directly use the Americans’ logo (not trying to step on copyrights here!), but still got the point across. A little bit of shiny and a clean design emphasizes the web-centric nature of his venture. The extra whitespace forced at the top will help with the site layout as well. The logo works well in full color, black + 1 spot color, and just black. The gradients will make it challenging to render on low-res output media, but for the intended use that’s ok.
